Areas of Focus in an RV Maintenance Exercise
You need to do something about the maintenance of your RV. You can attend to some of the maintenance duties yourself. Then there are those which you need a professional to have a look at. Either way, you need to ensure proper maintenance practices are there to keep your RV in the best possible.
You need to do regular RV roof inspection for leaks. Leaks are normally as a result of open seams in the roof’s edges, vents, skylights, or air conditioning unit. Water coming through the seams shall damage the insulation and then the inner layers of the ceiling. This shall be quite expensive to get fixed.
You also need to do something about the tires. You need the RV’s wheel lug units and tire pressure set right if the vehicle is to be safe to use. As the RV is constantly used, or is kept in storage, the lugs will get loose. It is therefore important to check up on those before setting out on your journey. You need them to also check on the tire pressure.
The battery has also to be looked into. It is not something to look forward to, having a dead battery in the middle of nowhere. You need it fully charged at all times. You need to also check on the age of the battery. Normally, you will have to think of buying another when yours reaches three years of age. There is a need to plan for a need one then.
You should also do something about the wastewater system. You need to have this system well maintained. Anything less and you risk having it clogged up soon.
There is also the RV’s brakes to look at. An RV is a large and bulky vehicle which needs powerful brakes to stop it at all times. If they start to show excessive wear and tear, replace them. This is for the sake of safety.
A scheduled oil change if part of the maintenance process. RVs do not need constant oil changes like small cars. But it is wise to see to it that there is an oil change at every seasonal transition. If you do not, you can cause the engine to die. You also need the air, fuel, coolant, and hydraulic filters changed regularly. These need attention every time there is an oil change.
You also, need to have the awnings inspected for damage.
You also need the electrical wiring to be checked for proper working order. This is especially the connection to the tow vehicle. There are safety concerns to consider. You need it if the brakes and lights are to work properly.
